Hi,
I am just enquiring in regards to the latest 7.6 minimal image. Currently it seems as though wget is now missing with @core as previously on 7.5 and images prior to that it has been included.
Can someone within the CentOS community advise if this is the case going forward as we generally install wget as part of packages in order to perform some additional installation steps for our builds.
Cheers
Details:
packages/TRANS.TBL - 7.5
F WGET_1_1.RPM;1 wget-1.14-15.el7_4.1.x86_64.rpm

no wget

Re: Query on Centos 7.6 minimal image missing wget from TRANS.TBL
It would appear that wget has been removed from the minimal iso though TRANS.TBL has nothing to do with it, that's a required file for iso9660 filesystems to bypass a restriction on the length of allowable filenames.
You'll find that curl is always installed as it's used by yum.

The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Hi,
Thanks for the confirmation on that.
Is there any specific reason as to why this has been removed? I would be curious to know as if its never going to be added back in the future.
Cheers

I don't know why it was removed. At a guess it would be because of lack of space on the minimal iso image and the fact that pretty much anything that wget can do, curl can too.

Re: Query on Centos 7.6 minimal image missing wget from TRANS.TBL
I would expect that it's not coming back. wget is not a requirement for any other package on the minimal image, and the minimal image aims to be minimal. As already pointed out, curl can be used for this purpose, or you can install wget afterwards in your build scripts. Or use the DVD image, which has wget.
Re: Query on Centos 7.6 minimal image missing wget from TRANS.TBL
I did see a comment online that it had been removed because they had switched to curl to retrieve a network based kickstart file instead of using wget. Not sure how true that is but if wget was only there to allow for that then I'm not surprised it was removed.
