GNOME terminal server killed by SIGSEV

Post by ron7000 » 2019/08/06 13:21:15

has happened frequently, so much so I have reinstalled centos 7.6 on my home computer because I thought I screwed something up. Just happened with different computer, that I keep pretty lean and clean.
Typing in a terminal window all of a sudden all terminal windows will close, and the abrt (auto bug report tool) will pop up with reason: gnome terminal server killed by SIGSEV and cmdline:/usr/libexec/gnome-terminal-server

The latest was I do ls -FC /lib64 and gnome dies, every time !

if I do ls -FC /lib64/*.a it's ok.

The other one was building gcc from source, within ~10 second after doing make as it starts spitting out all the stuff as it makes, gnome would die. I ended up doing init 3 and then building gcc from source, successfully.

fwiw i think it was caused by the gnome freon extension/plugin that shows [cpu] temperatures on your desktop.
reinstalled centos 7.6 with everything i could think of that i did before, did not do freon and the gnome crash does not happen anymore doing an ls /lib64
