https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/SetUpSamba

but file

Code: Select all

/etc/sysconfig/iptables
doesn't exist in centos 7, can i still follow that page to set up samba?

# ls /etc/sysconfig/iptables
/etc/sysconfig/iptables

# cat /etc/redhat-release

The file only exists if you use iptables-services but the default is firewalld.

No, that article is significantly out of date. If you use firewalld then you need to open UDP port 137 and TCP port 445 with firewall-cmd - probably using either service samba-client or samba.
CentOS 6 will die in November 2020 - migrate sooner rather than later!
CentOS 5 has been EOL for nearly 3 years and should no longer be used for anything!
