Stuck in Bootup : random: crng init done

Post by james.grezer » 2023/11/20 14:14:22

Hello everyone,

Good evening.

I was wondering if you any other suggestion? We are trying to boot the server into single-user mode for us to reset the "root" account. Unfortunately we encountered unresponsiveness and the server is stuck in this message: random: crng init done

We are already in openstack console access and we cannot proceed in the activity.

Hypervisor: Openstack 16
OS: CentOS 7.9

Current OS version is accepted as risk due to application inside the server.

I've seen single user mode appear to get stuck but it's really a display issue and the last 2 or 3 lines of output are off the bottom of the screen and invisible. So you sit there waiting for them forever when they're really there but you can't see them.

Hit enter a few times and see if you get a prompt.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Hello TrevorH,

Good day!

We did yesterday like we try to wait for atleast 15 minutes thinking the server is just too slow but no success haha. We also tried different arguments during bootup like init=/sysroot/bin/sh and rd.break but still not be able to the request.

Would it be possible that this might be an issue with its OS and its hypervisor? Openstack 16. We're just wondering on that part but we can't verify since the owner doesn't have any useful account for us to counter check it.

If the login prompt is off the bottom of the screen and invisible then you can wait forever and still not see it. Try it again and press enter a few times and see if the login prompt moves up the screen so it's visible. Or just type blind and enter the username<Enter> then the password<Enter>.

Hello TrevorH,

Good day!

Sure, we will try that one as well. I'll keep you posted if it works.

Thanks!

Hello TrevorH and Team,

It didn't not work as expected. Do we have another option that we can work around on this?

Rescue mode via ISO is not possible due to limited capabilities of its hypervisor OpenStack 16.
