Advice on which wifi adapter to get.

Post by ric » 2015/03/01 20:45:43

Hello

I'm about to purchase this laptop
https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/lafite/ , and plan on installing CentOS.

There are 4 options for wifi adapter
GIGABIT LAN & WIRELESS INTEL AC-3160 M.2 (433Mbps, 802.11AC) + BLUETOOTH
GIGABIT LAN & WIRELESS INTEL AC-7265 M.2 (867Mbps, 802.11AC) + BLUETOOTH
GIGABIT LAN & WIRELESS INTEL N-135 M.2 802.11N (150Mbps) + BLUETOOTH
GIGABIT LAN & WIRELESS INTEL N-7265 M.2 (300Mbps, 802.11N) + BLUETOOTH

I've been looking here https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/use ... oexistence ,
and here http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/w ... 034398.htm and I'm trying to decide which one to get.

I'm new to linux, but as far as I can tell, they all seem to have drivers available. I've read a lot about people having problems with wifi and linux, so I wanted to ask advice before I spend money.

Can anyone help me with this choice?

Thanks
Rich

The only one of those I'm fairly sure is currently supported by EL 7.0 is the Intel N-135 chipset.

Support for more devices does often get added at point releases, and 7.1 is due out soon so you never know what might get added.
