Problems with RTL8192cu
Problems with RTL8192cu
hi!!
I've been struggling for 4 days now and im on my edge right now!!
i need to install my wireless USB stick to my HPz800
i've tried almost everything
the only part that i get to work it is with this guide http://www.linux-hardware-guide.com/es/ ... fi-adapter
The problem is that it works and if i do not use the internet in 1 min i have to shutdown and restart the wifi
I dont know what else to do..
I did get the dirver in the realtek page but it doesnt work either (or, at least, i dont know how to install it or compile it)
Also i did try ElRepo, but it seems to need REHL 5 (or something like that) that, i assume, is for the ret hat kernel 5
That's basically it!!
I SERIOUSLY need your help!!
Thanks

Re: Problems with RTL8192cu
ELRepo has repos for C5, C6, and C7. You just need to install the correct repo file.
Please read the FAQs on the ELRepo site.

Re: Problems with RTL8192cu
Sorry I didn't see your reply hb4k. Given the info you have provided, I'll try to build you an updated driver for this device tonight.
I'll post back here when I have something available.
Thanks.

Re: Problems with RTL8192cu
I've backported a driver from kernel-3.10.70 for you and patched the code to recognise your device ID. You can find the package here:
http://elrepo.org/linux/testing/el7/x86 ... x86_64.rpm
This driver is probably quite similar to the driver in el7.0 that you've already tried, but please see how it works for you. This driver will only work with EL7.0 (not EL7.1)
CentOS 7.1 is due out soon, and the 7.1 kernel contains an updated rtl8192cu driver (that still does not contain support for your device ID so you'll still have to force the module to load). This updated driver is backported from kernel-3.16. If the EL7.1 driver still isn't stable for you I can try backporting the very latest driver from kernel-3.18 or kernel-4.0 for you, but I can only do this against the 7.1 distro kernel.
So even if the driver above is not great for you, we still have options

to NedSlider
I've been trying to help another user with a problem with this driver, see:
viewtopic.php?f=50&t=53412
Are you the maintainer (or know who the maintainer is) of this driver ?
Thanks,
John.

Re: Problems with RTL8192cu
Hi John,
I never maintained the driver as the original poster never provided any feedback and I don't have the hardware to test.

Re: Problems with RTL8192cu
Please could you advise:
If I want to try building the driver from www.realtek.com.tw ?
I did that on el6, and it worked fine - but there was no existing driver in that system.
If I build it (latest) on el7 - how best to use it without a conflict with the existing driver ?
Could I just replace the .so file in the kernel / modules / wifi / etc... - I doubt it.
Thanks.
