installing Nvidia driver
Re: installing Nvidia driver
I don't actually see the bit where you said that you had run yum install kmod-nvidia - you did install it?
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Re: installing Nvidia driver
Also, the Nvidia drivers need to be installed first. It won't work if bumblebee is installed first. Please, follow the instructions verbatim.

Re: installing Nvidia driver
I stick with the nouveau drivers on my Lenovo y50 and use Nvidia on the work stations in my lab.
I do not use Bumblebee.
I do not use Bumblebee.

So you're missing out on its advantages.1885 wrote: I do not use Bumblebee.

Re: installing Nvidia driver
Package kmod-nvidia-384.98-1.el7_4.elrepo.x86_64 already installed and latest version. The full list matching 'nvidia':TrevorH wrote:I don't actually see the bit where you said that you had run yum install kmod-nvidia - you did install it?
kmod-nvidia-384.98-1.el7_4.elrepo.x86_64
nvidia-detect-384.98-1.el7.elrepo.x86_64
nvidia-x11-drv-384.98-2.el7.elrepo.x86_64
yum-plugin-nvidia-1.0.2-1.el7.elrepo.noarch
Uninstalled and reinstalled everything - many times in the past year+; working on this problem when I had the time. Today, my video just "stopped working" entirely out of the blue - so I am trying again.giulix63 wrote:Also, the Nvidia drivers need to be installed first. Now trying with a newer kernel (kernel-lt from elrepo), which isn't supposed to have the problems with Bumblebee. All from scratch. Still the same problem:
Code: Select all
[ERROR]Module 'nvidia' is not found
Does anyone know - or am I the only person who ever tried to do this on a laptop with "optimus" graphics on it?
Re: installing Nvidia driver
You cannot use kmod-nvidia with the kernel-lt or kernel-ml packages. It only works with the distro kernel.

Re: installing Nvidia driver
Ah yes the BLINKING CURSOR (or is that curser? ) This may, or may NOT, be relevant but I had the exact same problem do to the microcode. Once you updated the microcode the BLINKING CURSOR problem goes a way.bu420 wrote:Its not working,
It forced centos screen to blinking cursor...
i can only use alt+f2 & root login nothing...
I had to reinstall centos 7.
Despite i am liking linux more it is just so annoying to get something on linux/centos...
-No hotspot
-No wifi(had to do lot of digging every-time)
-No nvidia driver
-stuck at dual boot...(any of os might will be lost from grub menu...)
