Intel Kaby Lake i5 7600k - Anyone run Centos 7?
Intel Kaby Lake i5 7600k - Anyone run Centos 7?
Hi all. I recently rebuilt my computer. Secondary intention was to load Centos 7 on a drive and use it as a lab. I bought the above mention processor and then proceeded to try to install Centos 7. I forget the exact error (which is probably not going to get me much help), but I recall it saying something about my "Kaby Lake" processor and missing PCH. I'm not too proficient in Linux troubleshooting, so any help would be great. I can install the release on a VM through windows just fine. I am trying to take some steps in studying for a RHCSA exam. Thanks.

Boot it again and remove rhgb quiet from the kernel command line so you can see the boot messages. Post the last section of them here.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Re: Intel Kaby Lake i5 7600k - Anyone run Centos 7?
I had the same issue:
I just installed CentOS 7 1611 on Intel i7700 with Z270 and got a message "unknown pch detected 0xa2c5" before installation process.
After successful installation, after the same message during OS boot process, the OS does not boot - just freezes.
I understand, that kernel 3.10 does not support Kady Lake processor. Is it the reason? Will it help if I will use the latest kernel 4.9 ?

Same thing applies: remove rhgb quiet from the kernel command line at the grub prompt so you see a verbose boot, post the last portion of what you see.
Please note that the 3.10 kernel that CentOS runs is NOT the same as the vanilla mainline kernel 3.10. It has thousands of patches applied to it by Redhat and among those patches are many many backports from the mainline kernel for newer hardware.

TrevorH, thank you for a quick reply!
I have done that you advised and removed boot options. The tail of boot log is:
MXM: GUID detected in BIOS
fb: conflict fb hw usage nouveaufb vs EFI VEGA - removing generic driver
, after that boot process freezes.

Does your machine have an nvidia video adapter?

Yes.TrevorH wrote:Does your machine have an nvidia video adapter?
I added 'nouveau.modeset=0' to kernel boot options, and now the system boots. Is it the correct solution?
Re: Intel Kaby Lake i5 7600k - Anyone run Centos 7?
If it works, it's correct

Katkalov.com - Would you mind sharing the GRUB entry in full as I'm struggling with the exact same thing.
