[SOLVED] NVIDIA GTX 1080 nvidia-detect says Optimus hardware

Post by insanemachina » 2017/03/03 22:41:33

I have tried several methods to install the proprietary driver for my GTX 1080. Every try was made on a fresh minimal install + Gnome desktop.
nvidia-detect returns:

Code: Select all

[fernando@the-machine ~]$ nvidia-detect -x
kmod-nvidia

Checking ABI compatibility with Xorg Server...
Xorg Video Driver ABI detected: 19
ABI compatibility check passed
Optimus hardware detected: An Intel display controller was detected
Either disable the Intel display controller in the BIOS
or use the bumblebee driver to support Optimus hardware
[fernando@the-machine ~]$
I have tried ElRepo, the oficial NVIDIA Linux driver for the GTX 1080 and several other methods and no luck so far.

The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
Info for USB installs on http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey
CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Thanks! It worked. Now it appears the only thing still in my way is installing the Cuda toolkit. I'll try to find out how to do it and if I hit a dead end I'll ask again here!
