Hi All,

Suddenly my Dell Latitude E5550 laptop with CentOS 7 doesn't detect the headphones.

When connecting the Headphone, the sound still appears in the laptop speaker. Tried googling it but the mentioned suggestions doesn't help;

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like a hardware error to me. The headphone socket has an internal switch that routes the sound to the headphones and away from the speakers when a jack plug is inserted.

Has there been any solution for this? I have been facing similar issue now, my headphones are not being detected.

Perhaps the contacts in the plug are corroded or dirty. When the machine is off, try running the plug in (fully) and out several times. There's no guarantee, but maybe it'll help you.

No my headphone jack is completely working fine! As I'm using dual boot, windows recognize my headphones when I plug it. The problem is with centos, it just does not recognize the headphones!! Kindly provide me solution as my problem is legit!

What's your hardware?

My laptop is Asus Rog G751JM

Could anybody please help me in this regard, my problem still persist!

I received a lesson last night - CentOS is indeed involved in the headphone issue; it's no longer just hardware anymore. In my case I had been watching netflix with headphones and paused my show. During that refreshment pause, I unplugged the headphones for whatever reason. When I resumed the show there was NO sound out of the speakers. I paused again, plugged in the headphones and resumed - headphones had sound. I then unplugged them without pausing and the sound then came out of the speaker (??). After a while, I unplugged the headphones and shut down the laptop.

A couple hours later, I started the same laptop, plugged in the headphones and started netflix again - no headphone sound anymore. I went into settings to try to track down what the settings were - the 'volume' was all the way down and the picture of the little speaker was now a little picture of headphones. Adjusting the volume slider restored the headphone sound. When I unplugged the headphones, the picture changed back to a little speaker.

This may not solve your problem, but now we know for sure that the hardware switch is no longer the only influence contrary to my previous beliefs.
