Problem installing CentOS 7 on Intel NUC

Post by dkalna » 2017/06/30 07:54:49

Hi there

This is my first post so thank you in advance for accepting my weird questions... :-)

I try to install centos (CentOS-7-x86_64-Minimal-1611.iso) on my new Intel NUC6i3SYK device.
However first line of installer says "i8042 no controller found" and than there is a little progress
and many errros. Does anybody had successfully installed centos on that device?
Thank you and best regards
Dalibor

I have! Well I've installed CentOS 6 & 7 on various generations of Intel NUCs with no problems. What exactly is the problem?

From memory the "original" keyboard controller was an i8051 and the i8042 is a smaller and newer version of that. Most NUCs don't have a "keyboard connector" (like a PS/2) and keyboards just use USB so I don't think that's a problem (and I seem to recall seeing that message).

What are these "many errors" that you say come after that? I am not sure the i8042 message is the one to worry about...
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Hi there

thank you all for your replies. Here is the story.

1. problem: I used universall usb installer to create my bootable usb drive
2. problem: so i switched to rawrite.exe and i could install (after 3 trials) centos successfully (or so I tought)
3. after booting to centos there were errors-messages saing my nvme ssd is damaged

after 2 evenings spended with Parted Magic i managed to recover my ssd drive

so now i have installed debian 9 and i will stick with that for i while :)

thank you all anyway for your support
Thank you and best regards
