CentOS 7 on PowerEdge 1800

Post by chaks » 2017/07/04 12:26:05

Hello all,

First of all i want to point that i'm a total newbie regarding CentOS or any other linux OS.

Ok lets start

Im trying to install CentOS 7 on PowerEdge 1800 with RAID controler Adaptec CERC 1.5/6ch , 6 port.

Raid is created as Raid 5 with 3 HDDs. I downloaded CentOS 7 everything installation and with no problem i installed it with Gnome Gui on HDD who was on MB SATA controler, but when i try to install it on RAID 5 CentOS installation cant see RAID on installation destination menu.

I googled it, and notice that i will need provide probably Rcontroler drivers so CentOS can see Raid controler.

So my question is how to give drivers to CentOS installation and where to find/get driver for adapter i mentioned.

Thanks all in advance for helping, and if u need more information about my problem i will tell.

I hope i will manage to make this work so i can dive in linux world :)

Best Regards

Anthony

That machine is probably too old to run CentOS 7. A large swathe of RAID controllers were deprecated with CentOS 7 and I'm pretty sure that yours will be one of them. You might try CentOS 6 instead - it still has another 3 years or so of life left but a poweredge 1800 must be from about 2005 so keeping it alive much longer will be a struggle.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Hello,

Tnx for response.

Well on that server CentOS 7 was installed before, but 1 disk was damaged and raid was droped so now i need to install a new fresh install of CentOS 7.

I found that Raid controler have support for Red Hat and that its able to work with aacraid drivers ?

Thanks in advance
