Need Help Installing Centos Minimal in Ryzen 7 1800

Post by kimchimuncher » 2017/09/27 05:01:39

I used rufus to create a bootable iso image using a usb stick. From what information I could get from the internet it seems that one must first update the kernel using elrepo 4.10 and up, installing custom kernel. My attempts to install centos 7 hangs everytime. I get a blank screen and a mouse and it just hangs. If i do not have the centos7 installed how would I access the command line and what commands should i type to update the kernel to the latest kernel that supports ryzen 7 1800x? Thanks. What are the steps of getting the latest kernel on to centos pre-installation?

Try recreating the USB stick using the dd utility - Rufus has been known to corrupt the iso image if the wrong settings are chosen.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
