Dell T30 Server Centos 7 Installation issue : Intel Ethernet driver 8086:15b7

Post by shashaanktulsyan » 2017/12/04 18:40:48

Hi,

I just installed centos 7 from
https://buildlogs.centos.org/centos/7/i ... x86_64.iso
to my new dell t30 server.

I am not able to connect to the internet in order to do anything.
The ethernet doesn't seem to work

lscpci -nn | grep -i net
Give the following output

Code: Select all

00:1f.6 Ethernet controller [0200]: Intel Corporation Device [8086:15b7] (rev 31)
The suitable driver AFAIK should be e1000e, I read here
viewtopic.php?t=58338
that we should not install the driver manually and it should be already there.

How to get this Ethernet card working?
I am ready for anything, installing a completely different version of centos is also fine.
What should I do to get this machine working in the most simplest of way?

Thanks

You've used some random iso image that hasn't been updated in 3.5 years. Get the real install DVD from http://www.centos.org/download and start over and try with that. For a start the "Live" media is not recommended as an installation source as it lacks any degree of customization.

The iso file you want is the one with DVD in its name.

The driver for your network card is part of the standard CentOS 7 kernel - e1000e.ko
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
