No images appeared and usually plain text is easier to read ion any case.

That message relates to a non-existent floppy drive and is probably not a real problem. What are you trying to do and what do you see?
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
Info for USB installs on http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey
CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Most probably it's a BIOS bug.
