CentsOS 7.4 DP 1.2 MST Not working

Post by mvandenberg » 2018/04/30 17:56:47

I have the latest CentOS7.4 installed on a Dell Optiplex 5055. DP 1.2 MST does not work. The 2 monitors are simply mirrored.

# lspci -nn | grep "VGA\|Display"
06:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Oland [Radeon HD 8570 / R7 240/340 OEM] [1002:6611] (rev 87)

# cat /etc/redhat-release
CentOS Linux release 7.4.1708 (Core)

I believe I need to configure the second DisplayPort monitor using xrandr but researching this is porving not to be successful.

The packages that make up what will be CentOS 7.5 are in the CR repo and you could try updating from there.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

If you do get same image on both monitors, then something definitely works. Does your desktop (GNOME?) have display settings that allow changing the layout of displays? (CentOS 7.4's GNOME definitely does.)

I have 7.4, NVidia card, and two Dell monitors in MST chain. "Works", except for three minor details:

1. Only the monitor directly connected to the card does go to standby. The other may turn black on screenlock, but it remains in full power.
2. If monitors are turned off and back on, the first monitor remains blank. It wakes only after "unlock"-"lock"-wait-"unlock" cycle.
These might be due to NVidia's driver.

3. GNOME's selection of options for workspaces and screen(s). As in "lack of".

When daisy chained (DP to mDP-in on monitor #1 and then DP-out to mDP-in on monitor #2) both monitors show the same.

The graphics card only has a Display Port and a VGA port.

The GNOME display settings only shows one display (see attached).

This is NOT a CentOS problem. This is a Dell and AMD problem. The hardware/driver does not recognize the second monitor.

We have Intel NUCs running CentOS with MST working fine.
