I now have to use a smart card to access certain sites for my job. I purchased a Rocketek RT-SCR1 because it was reccommended for my smart card. Though the reader is supposed to be supported on Linux, Mac OS and Windows all the information I can find is relative to installing drivers etc. for Windows and Mac.
The device is a usb pluggable card reader, but when I plug it in, I get no indication that system detects it.
How do I set my system up to access the Rocketek smart card reader?

Re: Access Rocketek RT-SCR1 smart card reader
You get no info listed in the output from dmesg when you plug/unplug the device?
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Re: Access Rocketek RT-SCR1 smart card reader
I do, I get:
[638055.025052] usb 1-1: new full-speed USB device number 13 using xhci_hcd
[638055.198771] usb 1-1: New USB device found, idVendor=058f, idProduct=9540
[638055.198777] usb 1-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0
[638055.198781] usb 1-1: Product: EMV Smartcard Reader
[638055.198784] usb 1-1: Manufacturer: Generic
Doesn't say Rocketek, but I'm OK with that I guess. But how do I get it to work? I go to the sites that want the smart card to log in, and they say they don't find the smart card. Do I have to get the browser to recognize the smartcard reader somehow?

What's the output of rpm -qa pcsc\* and if you run yum list pcsc\* do you have a number of choices available to install.

Re: Access Rocketek RT-SCR1 smart card reader
The output of rpm -qa pcsc\* is:
[root@Armaggedon kpcaldw]# rpm -qa pcsc\*
pcsc-lite-libs-1.8.8-7.el7.x86_64
The output of yum list pcsc\* is {a dag-blame LOT}:
nstalled Packages
pcsc-lite-libs.x86_64 1.8.8-7.el7 @base
Available Packages
pcsc-cyberjack.x86_64 3.99.5final.SP11-1.el7 epel

pcsc-lite-doc.noarch 1.8.8-7.el7 base

pcsc-perl.x86_64 1.4.14-2.el7 epel
pcsc-tools.x86_64 1.4.25-1.el7 epel
I believe the problem is, for me, the above is sort of like a pig looking at a wrist watch; mildly annoying cause I don't know what it is that I'm looking at.

Re: Access Rocketek RT-SCR1 smart card reader
No expert on this here either. I do know that pcsc packages help with smartcard support so running `yum info` on each of those packages might help you to work out which ones you need to install. I would suspect pcsc-lite-ccid and that pulls in pcsc-lite itself. The -doc package wouldn't hurt either - that way at least one of us has access to the doc about it I'd also look at pcsc-tools as the info for that one sounds useful too.
