Post by nishantvshah » 2018/09/25 00:44:12

Hello Guys,

i have a hp w2207h monitor which has a few usb ports as well as a sound card.. unfortunately HP website does not have drivers for Linux... Is there a workaround to this problem?

Thanks

It's not the monitor that requires drivers. Those just work. If it's not displaying the resolutions you want then you need to look at drivers for the video card not for the monitor. What's the output from lspci -nn | grep -i vga ?
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Is the sound card connected with USB? If so, what's the output of lsusb.

Hello All

below is the output of lspci -nn | grep -i vga.

00:0d.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation C61 [GeForce 6150SE nForce 430] [10de:03d0] (rev a2)

the resolutions are fine and im happy with the output... im looking to use the usb ports and the sound associated with the monitor... im not sure if the sound card is connected to the USB (its an internal card).

the output of lsusb is below.

Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0bda:0111 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTS5111 Card Reader Controller
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 046d:c05a Logitech, Inc. M90/M100 Optical Mouse
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

as i mentioned earlier, HP's website has drivers for windows only.

Thanks
Nishant

It looks to me from the specs of the monitor that it has speakers which can be used with HDMI. Are you connecting using HDMI?

Hello... No the speakers work without HDMI. There is an audio cable connected from the monitor to the PC... This was working with windows.

Then there's a problem with your PC's soundcard. What's the output of lspci -nn|grep udio?

Hello,

the output of lspci -nn | grep -i udio is as below

00:05.0 Audio device [0403]: NVIDIA Corporation MCP61 High Definition Audio [10de:03f0] (rev a2)

i believe the kmod-forcedeth drivers are for the chipset and not the eth adaptor only.
