I'm wondering if a distro upgrade will preserve the driver?

kmod-ath5k is now available from elrepo. A change going from kernel 4.10 to 4.11 caused the driver compile to fail for the backported Centos kernel. Now fixed. Using CentOS 7 is far preferable to using CentOS 6 which, as TrevorH points out, will cease being supported next year (November 30th).

I haven't had much luck with the elrepo. It says the module is in the testing repo. http://elrepo.org/linux/testing/ I cant find it anywhere on there.

Assuming I follow, download and install https://elrepo.org/linux/testing/el7/x8 ... noarch.rpm

Maybe a reboot and the Wifi card should work?

Sorry for the questions but I threw more teddies out the pram than I care to mention!

will add the elrepo repository, but wont install the driver you need, you also need to:

Code: Select all

yum install kmod-ath5k
then your wireless adaptor should work. BTW it's in the main repo, there's no need to enable testing to get it.

Thanks. Works a treat!

For reference I basically connected the laptop though LAN and then ran

sudo rpm --import https://www.elrepo.or ... elrepo.org
sudo yum -y install https://www.elrepo. ... noarch.rpm
sudo yum -y install kmod-ath5k

Rebooted and wifi now available and working!
