Can’t install centos in my new computer?

Post by nickhuang » 2020/11/02 16:40:05

I want to install centos7 in my new computer (i9 rtx3090). But when I install.error message is:unknown chipset,I think it’s caused by nouveau. So I disable it by nomodeset rdblacklist=nouveau. But it still can’t boot.I checked with journalctl .find the red message: detected cpu family 6 model 165. I am not sure if this message means I can’t install centos7 in computer with intel i9. That real drives me mad. I can’t find out what’s wrong with my computer. Can anyone help on this? Thanks a loooooot

What about if you use the basic video option under the initial Troubleshooting menu when you boot?
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Been there (newer hardware than CentOS). TrevorH's advice works great. When CentOS "catches up", your regular yum update will handle it.

Thanks for reply.
It still doesn’t work. Dracut initqueue timeout. Then enter emergency mode.
I am sure my boot udisk is good. And my computer is hp omen. It confuse me because it’s a hot-saled computer of hp. Can’t install centos is not reasonable for such powerful computer

So that's a different issue.

How did you create your USB stick? See the link in my sig to instructions on broken tools to avoid.

Does your other machine operate in the same UEFI or Legacy BIOS mode as this one? The way in which these programs break our isos is by removing teh duaul UEFI/Legacy BIOS boot ability.

I'd recommend using one of the utilities known to work not something that has never been used before.
