Testing/tuning 40Gb/s networking on CentOS 7

Post by Moe » 2018/07/15 23:08:01

Hello all

I'm working on 2 new servers, that will be used as fileservers for smb clients

Both servers are equipped with intel X710 , which is a 40Gb/s card, and we plan on using the 40Gb/s for connection between the two servers, for backup / synchronizing data

I'm looking for suggestions on tools to test network performance between the server , will tools like iperf be good for it ? or it's not meant for this kind of links ?

Also, any suggestions on tuning to get the best throughput out of the links is appreciated

Thanks in advance

I presume there must be different models of X710 then as the ones I have are 4 x 10GbE not 40GbE.

iperf3 is in EPEL and, yes, it's designed for that very task.
CentOS 5 died in March 2017 - migrate NOW!

I believe so, the one I have is XL710-QDA2 - Dual Port QSFP+

Thanks, any suggestion on tuning settings for the network ? Do you use jumbo frames or 1500 MTU ?

Thanks
