Nvidia MCP55 no kernel module

Hey all,

I did a fresh install of cent7 the other day and just realized that my ethernet devices are not usable. lspci shows two nvidia mpc55 (a3) devices, but I don't get any sort of eth device for them. I downloaded the latest driver from nvidia which is for a 2.6.x kernel and it won't load. Says the module is an invalid format. Is there a fix to that or does this box need to go back to cent6?

Redhat removed several (a.k.a lots!) of ethernet drivers from EL7 and among them was forcedeth which handles that card. At the moment your choice is to go back to el6 or to wait and see if perhaps ELRepo might provide a kmod driver for the card. If there isn't one already, best to raise an RFE on their bugtracker and ask if it's possible.

I have the same issue with a different card of nvidia (MCP79), but same driver: forcedeth
I would have hoped that NIC support was seen as basic support: Install gets a bit cumbersome now: you can not download the driver from elrepo during install without network connection.
Any tips to work around this for networkbased installs, like pxe-cobbler?

Complain to Redhat? It was Redhat who removed forcedeth and only they can put it back in the distro. Anything else is just a workaround for that problem.

Found it here (along with a bunch of other nvidia stuff). 64 bit directory.

I understand redhat wanting to trim down the distro size and maybe they want to "modernize" or something. Whatever, I'm just glad someone has a package. Thanks for the help

For anyone that finds this later on down the line. The forcedeth package from elrepo has been working fine and has been maintained through a kernel update. I'll report back if I run into problems with it.
