NetworkManager vpn is not available

Post by tulipb » 2014/09/05 08:11:16

Hi all.

I have a fresh install of CentOS 7 with KDE as a desktop system. The problem is that Add button of VPN tab in NetworkManager is greyed out preventing the way to make new vpn connection. I know that i can workaround that by console tools, but... it worked perfectly in Ubuntu, for ex. Is there is any way to fix that? May be it's a known problem already? Thanks.

Did you install the other NetworkManager packages for your type of VPN? Run yum list NetworkManager\* to see the entire list. Some more choices are in the EPEL and nux-dextop repositories for el7.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Following up on this since it still trips some people up. For KDE users, you will need to ensure you have the proper kde-plasma-networkmanagement packages installed. For example -> kde-plasma-networkmanagement-openvpn.x86_64, available from the EPEL repository.

Just guessing really ....

Perhaps you need to root to have the required permissions?

But like I say, just a guess.
