Port forward

Post by dehalgren » 2014/10/24 22:22:04

I currently forward port 25 to my sendmail server on my netgear router. I am setting up a postfix server on a different machine. My n
etgear router will not let me port forward port 25 to 2 different machines at the same time. Can I forward port 25 to a different port for postfix to work correctly and which would be the best port. I presume that I can.
Thanks

You can only port forward a port to one destination. That's only required for inbound mail anyway and I'm assuming that you don't want to handle inbound mail on two different machines?
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Well yes I did.Was not sure if I could forward port 25 to different ip addresses on my router or not, or if I could forward port 25 to port 25 on one machine and forward port 25 to a different port on the second machine

There's only one port 25 on your external ip address - that is assuming you only have one external ip address. You cannot forward it to two places, pick one. If you need to forward to a second machine then you'll need a second external ip addresss (and a firewall/router capable of handling that).
