can you provide the contents of the ifup-eth file?

I removed it and didn't make a back-up copy of it. Yes, flame away. :oops:

Can you post or send the default contents of that file to me?

It belongs to

$ rpm -qf /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup-eth
initscripts-9.49.17-1.el7_0.1.x86_64
so a yum reinstall initscripts would have got it back for you.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
Info for USB installs on http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey
CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
