New Centos 7 install, RTL8191SU 802.11 WLAN seen not startin

Post by jferristx » 2015/04/14 02:10:14

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545. New Centros 7 install. I cannot connect the wireless (rtl8191su chipset). dmesg shows the kernel discovered and installed the correct driver for this (no exit code), lsusb shows it correctly as Bus 002 Device 003. Network will not start. When I go to Network Settings, it shows USB Ethernet connection, shows it as a "wired" connection, shows constantly "connecting". When I go into settings, it wants the mac (which is correct for the device), but when I go to the rest of the settings, it treats it like it is wired, doesn't ask for wireless security, doesn't ask for SSID, won't start (though ironically, it does show "airplane mode"...and yes, airplane mode is OFF). When I do systemctl status network -l, I get RTNETLINK Answers File Exists 7 times, then I get systemd[1] network.service: control process existed, code=exited status=1. Next line is Failed to start LSB: Bring up/down networking. next line Unit network.service entered failed state.

I can ping successfully 127.0.0.1 ip addr says for usb adapter:
enp0s29f7u3: < NO CARRIER, BROADCAST, MULTICAST, UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state DOWN qlen 1000

Sorry, I could give more info but I dont' have a wired connection to use at the moment, so I'm reading it from linux and typing it in on my Windows machine. Everything else about the system appears to be working fine, I have no errors other than this (that I have discovered so far). This adapter was immediately recognized and functioned with Linux Mint 17.1, but I'm trying Centos because mint blew up trying to install my wireless printer. knoppix livecd also found usb wifi and functioned.

I have a 600N wireless network, one password protected, one open guest. It's not seeing it at all.

a little help here would be appreciated
Thanks
