I'm having a terribly maddening problem with a computer that I recently installed. I did a CentOS 7 minimal install and installed Zimbra on it. I actually did the install at least twice because of the network issue that keeps popping up. I think something is overwriting something periodically but I can't for the life of me find it. I think I disabled NetworkManager and it's still happening.
What's going on is I can't ping my gateway periodically and then it works again, and stops, etc. This is a /27 subnet and I when the issue pops up I can ping/connect to all systems except of course the gateway. I pruned down the ifcfg-eth file, I've disabled ipv6, I've beat my head against a wall and then it mysteriously works.
Here's an example of a sequence that just happened (brief summary: ping no work, restart network, ping work, surf a while, ping no work, restart network, ping still no work:
[root@mail ~]# ping def-gw
PING def-gw (xx.xx.xx.xx) 56(84) bytes of data.^C
--- def-gw ping statistics ---
3 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 1999ms
[root@mail ~]# systemctl status NetworkManager.service
NetworkManager.service - Network Manager
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/NetworkManager.service; disabled)
Active: inactive (dead)
[root@mail ~]# systemctl restart network (no changes, just reset the network)

Any ideas on where to start chasing my tail would be appreciated. I have installed 2 other servers before this and they work fine. As far as I can tell, this has the same network settings, the only difference being this is a minimal install.
Intermittent Connection Issues to Gateway
Re: Intermittent Connection Issues to Gateway
Run lspci -nn | grep -i net and post the output.
Do you have more than one interface?

The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

00:19.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Intel Corporation 82579V Gigabit Network Connection [8086:1503] (rev 04)
1 interface only
Edit: fwiw, the interface works fine through this because I'm sshing in from another host on the subnet to do all this.
