CentOS

Good evening,
I purchased a Dell Precision T1700 second hand a few months ago and I've been slowly trying to get it up and running with CentOS 7. I installed the DVD image by burning it to a disc and almost everything seems to be working hunky dory, aside from a TP-Link wireless adapter I purchased specifically for this computer. When I selected the TP-Link TL-WN722N adapter, I was under the impression that it worked in CentOS, but this doesn't appear to be the case for 7. I've spent a few hours trying to install by the various methods that come up when I google "TL-WN722N CentOS 7" but they all appear to be either for previous releases of CentOS or other Linux distros entirely(and none of the methods work on my Centos 7). In particular I found these instructions for debian: https://erickcion.wordpress.com/2012/05 ... i-antenna/, but I'm not familiar enough with CentOS and how to translate from debian instructions to centos.

Does anyone know how to get this up and working? I temporarily have it plugged into ethernet while I solve this, but I can't leave it here at my office for very long.

The ELRepo guys have a kmod-ath9k_htc package for CentOS 6 but not for CentOS 7. I don't know why there is not one for el7, perhaps because there is an ath9k module in the el7 kernel already but that doesn't support your chip. Perhaps an RFE on their bugtracker might get them to produce one for el7.

After an embarassing display of my own knowledge of CentOS and operating systems( ), it was discovered that I hadn't run "yum update" after installing the CentOS 7. According to the kind administrator over at ElRepo's bug tracker, I should now ask this forum for help in configuring my NetworkManager. So how do I go about that? Here are results from running dmesg and cat /var/log/messages that seemed to indicate to the admin that it was book closed:

Where do I go from here to get this wireless adapter up and running?

Do you have the NetworkManager-wifi package installed?

I ran "yum install NetworkManager-wifi.x86_64" and it installed the package.

*** Edited because I ran yum on my laptop instead of the tower

After rebooting, the wifi manager popped up and I was able to connect. Thanks so much!

Your notebook could not connect Wi-Fi. Can you please tell me how you could install NetworkManager-wifi.x86_64?

Please do not hijack ancient threads. You already have one running about wireless access, use that.
