Would CentOS replace my DFS servers?

Post by jb1023 » 2017/05/30 15:13:01

I have a Windows 2008 R2 Active Directory domain and all my users are on Windows 10 Pro. I have 2 file servers running DFS, syncing. This is done more for redundancy/fail-over than for load-balancing. My question is, would CentOS be a good option to look at to replace those file servers? This is the only role these servers have so I wanted to see what other options I had beyond spending $700+ (x2) for Windows Server 2016 licenses.

I have read about adding CentOS servers to an existing AD domain so that SHOULD not be an issue, obviously there will be lots of testing before anything gets implemented in production, so my only real question is the DFS and whether or not Cent can do that. If Cent does have this functionality then I will buy a class/book and start the learning process.
