Help with ethernet on Gigabyte 990FX-UD7 board

Post by OliverN » 2017/06/11 01:53:37

I'm currently running an FX8320 in a Gigabyte 990FXA-UD7 rev3.0 motherboard. While CentOS will detect whether or not the Ethernet cord is plug in for some reason it will not connect to the internet I have tried both automatic and manual configuration. After some searching on the internet apparently other people have had trouble with the Ethernet featured on this board when it comes to certain Linux distros like CentOS or Debian. Apparently I need to install some specific non-free software for it to work, I found this out after trying Debian. I've concluded that I should buy a PCI-E Ethernet card (I don't think I'm up to fixing it through software), does anybody have a suggestion for a card which is guaranteed to work with CentOS or Debian?

Try installing kmod-r8168 from the ELRepo third party yum repo and see if that fixes your current card.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
