Or find a different wireless adapter. I suspect the problem is the same one I've seen before but never found a solution for - the adapter says it's a wired one so NM doesn't give you any options for wifi on it as it doesn't think it has it.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

OK giving up of the Wifi. I need the dongle to troubleshoot something else now anyway.

So for now.. I plugged the computer into the router directly and installed PuTTY on my couchtop Windows 10 machine and that's working well.
