Hi All,
I have a Dell Vostro that came with Ubuntu pre-loaded. I was able to connect to wireless internet. Now, after installing CentOS, it is detecting my wireless connection. I searched the board but was not able to get answers to my specific laptop. I have a wireless hotspot from my service provider Airtel. When I plug the Airtel to my laptop, it doesn't recognize it either. I am a newbie to Linux. Don't know where to go from here. Please help. i am posting this from my desktop that is running Ubuntu. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and Regards
CentOS not detecting wifi
Re: CentOS not detecting wifi
Hi,
How do you connect it to your laptop (USB ??). If yes, does it show up in the output of lsusb ?
If its something that is connected via pci , does it show up in lspci output ?
Once it is there, then comes the task of checking if the modules is loaded.
Thanks,
AA

Re: CentOS not detecting wifi
Some 3G modems show up as a CDROM when first plugged in as the CD has Windows drivers on it. You may need to set up a udev rule or something to run usb_modeswitch to tell it to not be a CD but be the modem it's intended to be.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Re: CentOS not detecting wifi
If it's a 3G/4G USB modem - you also need the 'ModemManager.service' to be running.
