CentOS 7 GNOME no PPTP VPN option

Post by florius » 2017/12/15 19:02:17

Hi. I'd like to use a PPTP VPN. I installed the package but the option doesn't appear in my Network manager:
[root@localhost ~]# rpm -qa | grep ppt
NetworkManager-pptp-1.1.0-3.20150428git695d4f2.el7.x86_64
pptp-1.7.2-22.el7.x86_64
NetworkManager-pptp-gnome-1.1.0-3.20150428git695d4f2.el7.x86_64
Any clue what I could be doing wrong?
I already rebooted my PC.

The version of NetworkManager-pptp from EPEL hasn't been changed since 2015 and needs rebuilding, probably needs updating to a newer version too. This was reported via https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1467910 but nothing has been done about it. You could try updating that bz with a "me too" but I suspect the maintainer has lost interest and wandered off. In any case, pptp is insecure and really shouldn't be used at all.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
