dhcp does not work on setup
dhcp does not work on setup
The problem that i am experiencing is that i never get assigned an ip address when installing Centos 7 (i am installing with the gui). I tested to install windows on same setup and it automatically got an ip. What kind of problem could cause this?

What's your hardware? It could be that CentOS doesn't recognise your card.
Re: dhcp does not work on setup
When you installed CentOS, did you set the interface to start automatically at boot? It is not enabled by default.
Re: dhcp does not work on setup
I'm installing the os onto my esxi server (which also where i tested it with Win10). I get a connection if i manually set everything myself but now and then the connection gets faulty and my apache and ssh server stops working for a while. I suspect the problem is with the ip assignment process within centos since it works perfectly well in windows 10 installation.
Re: dhcp does not work on setup
What version of ESXi are you using?

What type did you specify in ESXi for the network adapter?

Adapter type on the vm is VMXNET 3pjsr2 wrote:What type did you specify in ESXi for the network adapter?
Re: dhcp does not work on setup
On my ESXi 6.5 .0 system with vmxnet3 adapter, the network is working flawlessly both with static IP and with dhcp configuration. I am more inclined to search in the direction of configuration or routing problems in your network than for problems in the CentOS guest.
Do you mean like no response for a period (10 s, 30 s, 60 s? ) and then communication flows for a while without any change and then maybe again such a non-responsive period?I get a connection if i manually set everything myself but now and then the connection gets faulty and my apache and ssh server stops working for a while.
Re: dhcp does not work on setup
Maybe i should have been more clear in my configuration. I have a router to router bridge connection. I do not think the problem is with the bridge since it works flawlessly when i install a windows vm into the server.
Yes, it is as you describe it but the problem is occurring longer than a minute, more like 15 mins.Do you mean like no response for a period (10 s, 30 s, 60 s? ) and then communication flows for a while without any change and then maybe again such a non-responsive period?
