Looking for CentOS repo with most current HAProxy version available?

Post by onetech-it » 2018/01/24 12:30:56

I am running the most current version of CentOS (7.4.1708) and am looking to install HAProxy as my front end reverse proxy.

Based on my current set of installed yum repos, the version of haproxy available via yum is 1.5.18, which is a 20 month old version.

Is there a recommended third party repo that contains a more current version of haproxy (either 1.7 or 1.8), that I can install via yum?

No. The haproxy package is part of the base repo so is shipped by CentOS (and RHEL) itself. No reputable repo will replace packages that we supply.

Since it is part of base, it's subject to RH's backporting policy for RHEL - https://access.redhat.com/security/updates/backporting - so is maintained by them and security bugs are fixed by them. The package changelog shows

Code: Select all

* Mon May 01 2017 Ryan O'Hara <rohara@redhat.com> - 1.5.18-6
- Use KillMode=mixed in systemd service file (#1444709)

* Thu Mar 16 2017 Ryan O'Hara <rohara@redhat.com> - 1.5.18-5
- Use soft-static allocation for haproxy UID/GID (#1386130)
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
