Mod_Security and Mod_Evasive

Hi Everyone:
Im really excited about the new CentOS . A little bit of a learning curve in terms of commands to enable services at startup and restarting services. Not to mention the firewall instead of iptables. Which brings me to a question that I have for you all. How intuitive is the firewalld? I host a series of Apache servers running CentOS 6.5 and I have Mod_Security and Mod_Evasive installed on all of them. Are these mod's even needed if I run Apache on CentOS 7? I've studied the firewall and I see ways where you can setup zones to do what both Mod's can do but is it easier to just install and enable the mod's?
Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
