A system admin worked with me to move my sql server to remote.
Remote mysql is now running without any firewall. Only Mariadb is installed.
Is this safe?

The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

In corporate environments where Hardware-based Firewalls defent the DMZ - most of the time the servers do not have a running firewall.
