Firefox and videos problems

Post by lucasgvarela » 2019/11/02 15:46:08

I'm facing a lot of problems trying to reproduce videos using firefox after a fresh install of CentOS 8.

Some examples:
Youtube - OK, the videos reproduces without problems
Udemy - the video didn't start at all and I receive an error message about "Check if your flash player is enabled ..."
Twitter - "Can't not reproduce the media"
Vimeo - "Player error - The player is having trouble. We’ll have it back up and running as soon as possible."
Others sites - The video is downloaded instead of played in the browser.

1 - What I have to install?
2 - I need install something about flash player?
3 - I have read about gstreamer package, but from what repository should I get this package and which one, because there is a lot of gstreamer packages.

Code: Select all

[root@localhost yum.repos.d]# yum search gstreamer

You need to install ffmpeg-libs from a 3rd party repo like rpmfusion.

Worked :D

Installed following this tutorial:
https://computingforgeeks.com/how-to-in ... os-rhel-8/

The only two remain questions for me is:
1 - Why we don't have this as default (for Workstation installation)?
2 - Why I have to use a fedora repository?

Ask your lawyer about patents and wether it's legal to use ffmpeg where you live.

If you installed rpmfusion's fedora repo you did it wrong. They have separate repos for RHEL/CentOS.
