This is happening after the centos 8 grub2 bootloader loads and tries to start gnome display.
Started GNOME Display Manager .ss finishes up...wn. Service.ansactions....
what does the error mean with missing letters.
Ctrl-Alt-F2 works but suddenly returns to this prompt with a debug trail pointing to inability to assign buffer memory to radeon.
Sometimes this error shows up at same point trying to start display
"Starting hold until boot process finishes up"
Nothing much apart from this in log.

I tried re installing grub but to no use.

It's nothing to do with grub. It's your video driver...
CentOS 6 will die in November 2020 - migrate sooner rather than later!
CentOS 5 has been EOL for nearly 3 years and should no longer be used for anything!

The system was booting fine since centos 8 release.
I did not install anything new though I suspect libGLU-mesa required for anydesk.
Removed anydesk but that library is there. Is that the culprit?
