Hello Forum Members,
I am currently facing an issue while trying to install CentOS 8 on my system and I'm seeking some guidance to resolve it.
Processor: Core i5 6th gen
RAM: 8GB DDR3
Storage: 256GB
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super
I attempted to install CentOS 8 using the Bootable USB method
During the installation process, I encounter the following error message "unable to install Centos 8 on this Device"
I've tried a different installation method, checking hardware connections, etc. Even I have successfully installed other operating systems on this hardware without any issues. But with CentOS 8 issue is still persists
I would greatly appreciate any guidance or suggestions to help me overcome this installation hurdle. Your assistance is highly valued!
Thank you in advance for your time and support.
Best regards, Moriswayne

Re: Unable to Install CentOS 8
There is no CentOS Linux 8, only the beta that is known as Stream. There was a CentOS Linux 8 but it died at the end of 2021 and is unmaintained and should not be used. There are other rebuilds of RHEL 8 that avoid the beta-ness of CentOS Stream so you might want to look at those as replacements.
Also, make sure that you use a supported method of copying the iso image to your USB stick as many programs that say they are designed to do so will silently corrupt the media as they copy them. The best program to use is dd as it does a binary copy of iso to stick with no attempt to be "clever".

The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Thanks Trevor for the reply.
Re: Unable to Install CentOS 8
dd if=isofile.iso of=/dev/sdX
never use /dev/sdX1..2..3..4
never use /dev/sdX1..2..3..4

At what step of the process? Who said that? When? What did you do before that?moriswayne wrote: ↑2023/10/22 07:16:11During the installation process, I encounter the following error message "unable to install Centos 8 on this Device"
What were the "other operating systems" and could this USB media install to other computers?
I do agree that install of CentOS Linux is no longer an option, and install of either CentOS Stream 8 or 9
implies that one knows what one is doing and does it intentionally (i.e. not for a "production" system).
