CentOS

Hi all, I have installed on my laptop CentOS 8. I have two usb wireless sticks:

1) TP-link tv-wn725n

This one is not recognized at all and I can’t even compile the drivers.

2) D-Link DWA-131

This one is recognized by CentOS 8 out of the box after a reboot. I can see my wireless networks on the network manager (GUI). But, the connection to the network always fail.

Someone can recommend me a good usb wireless dongle who works on CentOS 8 ? Not something too old like this I can order it online.

The Ralink 5370 wireless chipset is supported out of the box on Linux distros - I bought this recently for
my Ryzen desktop PC:

It worked fine in CentOS 7 using NetworkManager-wifi - I hotspotted it to my phone when changing my home ISP recently.

Note that I left it plugged in when installing CentOS 8 and it actually caused the installer to hang 3/4's the way through the package install (I think it was the GNOME themes package it was installing at the time). Switching virtual consoles to look at the installer output showed a lot of activity with the wi-fi adapter, which got me suspicious that this was the issue (note I hadn't got anything configured for the adapter - I'd use the wired connection for network config in the CentOS 8 installer).

I removed the wi-fi adapter and then ran the CentOS 8 installer again - it went through perfectly. I must admit, I didn't then plug the adapter back in because the wired connection was working fine (had already switched ISPs by then).

I have the same issue with a "0bda:b812 Realtek Semiconductor Corp."

I think the correctly module is RTL8812BU but i can't find it in CentOS.

I've tried ASUS USB-N13 recently.
Works out-of-the-box on CentOS 7 and 8.

Happy to confirm that the Ralink 5370 from amazon as linked is working fine with my Centos 8 box.

I just got off the phone with ASUS technical support.

This did not work out-of-the-box for me, it did not work at all. The driver that came packaged with the thing wouldn't even install. The tech support line clearly didn't know anything about Linux, all they could say is that they'd report the error to their "engineering department." I've already packaged this up to return to Amazon.

Wish I could find the Ralink 5370 everyone here has mentioned, but every seller on Amazon is out of stock. Off to hunt for another solution...

I returned the ASUS and bought a couple of other wifi cards to test them out. Both work perfectly:

I had a brief moment with both when I thought I was going crazy. I couldn't find my wifi network!

Turns out it's because they're both 2.4GHz adapters, and I only had my 5GHz network public. I tried them both with my hidden 2.4GHz and both worked perfectly.
