fglrx problem

Post by vstijn » 2011/05/26 08:26:37

Dear all,

I have installed CentOS-5.6 as a dual boot on a recent Macbook Pro. I have posted the output of ./getinfo.sh driver in http://pastebin.centos.org/37324. In particular, my graphics card type is Intel HD Graphic 3000.
When I try to launch Ansys-ICEM (cscientific software), I receive the following error:

X Error of failed request: BadLength (poly request too large or internal Xlib length error)
Major opcode of failed request: 65 (X_PolyLine)
Serial number of failed request: 4154
Current serial number in output stream: 4155

As far as I understood, this error is related to a conflict with/of the fglrx-driver, and I should replace the proprietary ati-catalyst driver (11-5) replace by another one. However, since I am a Linux newbie, I am not quite sure about this. Am I correct? And if so, which new graphics driver should I install?

Thank you.

The fglrx driver is for ATI graphics cards and your system does not have one so this is not the same problem.

Do you actually have graphics running on the machine at all? You'll be the first person I've seen post to have graphics running on the new sandy bridge integrated graphics if so!

You're right. I presume this implies (at least) changing my Linux flavor. Is there any flavor that support this graphics already?

I don't know about the other distros but you have to be fairly bleeding edge to have support for it, so RHEL6.1 has it but 6.0 does not. I'd guess that the latest Fedora does if you like a Redhat-a-like distro. No idea about Debian/Ubuntu etc because I don't take much notice of them.

There are some testing packages available that may support your Intel graphics on RHEL6 and derivatives such as SL6 or the upcoming CentOS 6. See the ELRepo bug report for details.
