Truecrypt 7.0 5.CentOS 7

Post by npolite » 2011/11/29 20:00:30

Hi All,

One of our customers has asked us to look into possibly encrypting the entire O/S. I have been looking at truecrypt but don't see the options that some online documents show with the system --> encrypt system partition. Is this possible in CentOS 5.7 with already an existing install in place? Can someone help me out on how I convert the mounts? The only thing I see from the GUI is to format and encrypt a new partition.

I won't be the end of the world if I tell our customer only their data mount will be encrypted but I want to be sure so they don't question my response.

Thanks

You can specify native encryption when installing the system by marking a checkbox at (IIRC) disk-layout time. You'll get prompted for a password at boot time.
Don't know of a way to add this afterwards, so you may be looking at a reinstall.

Thanks for the information. I know that this is possible in Windows to do it at will but those options are missing in the Linux version.

If anyone knows of an other way besides reformatting, let me know.
