hp d1460 requires hplip 2.7.7

Post by feddds » 2008/06/20 19:49:33

in this site:
http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=HP-Deskjet_D1460

well i have to say that after trying to autoinstall (sh hplip 2.8.5) according to: http://hplip.sourceforge.net/downloads.html my little hp deskjet wouldnt work. i checked cups and it is installed but the printer wont move...

other way is to upgrade hplip 1.6.7 from some repo...

other is to obtain the ppd cups file...

i ll keep searching...if sb know any hint will have be appreciated.

couldnt find usefull info in forum entries.

thanks!

i know centos goes mostly for servers...but i will not quit on it on my amd cheap uniwill 256mb laptop...it runs like no other...
i usually use this printer...i installed hplip 2.8.6 but on booting...var/log/messages:
Jun 19 18:15:34 pc-00162 python: hplip-install[6285]: warning: Missing REQUIRED dependency for option 'fax': python-dbus (python-dbus - Python bindings for dbus)
Jun 19 18:15:34 pc-00162 python: hplip-install[6285]: warning: This installer cannot install 'python-dbus' for your distro/OS and/or version.
then:
Jun 19 18:38:23 pc-00162 hpiod: 1.6.7 accepting connections at 50000...
Jun 19 18:38:24 pc-00162 python: [2682]: error: dbus failed to load (python-dbus ver. 0.80+ required). Exiting...
well searching arrived to:
http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/3/srodzaj/1/search/dbus-python
where for centos 5
CentOS 5 ftp.centos.org/5.1/os/x86_64/CentOS/dbus-python-0.70-7.el5.x86_64.rpm
CentOS 5 ftp.centos.org/5.1/os/i386/CentOS/dbus-python-0.70-7.el5.i386.rpm
strange: no match python-dbus vs dbus-python...solved that being the same...still have version problem: 0.80+ vs 0.70
well, i ll keep going...

ah actually...i guess hplip 2.8.6 has never been installed.

Thank you for telling us how you resolved this issue. It may well help someone else in the future.

There is just one small point I would like to flag.
error: You are running the installer as root. It is highly recommended that you run the installer as
error: a regular (non-root) user. Do you still wish to continue?
Continue with installation (y=yes, n=no*, q=quit) ? y
You really should have quit the installation at this point, logged in as an ordinary user and restarted the install.
It is recommended that all tasks should be performed as a normal user until it is necessary to become root for one or more particular steps . . .

hp d1460 requires hplip 2.7.7

Post by NedSlider » 2008/06/28 12:40:03

Johnny Hughes has just built a testing version of hplip 2.8.6 available here:

http://people.centos.org/hughesjr/hplip/5/

If anyone would like to test and report back, that would be great :-)

EDIT: in order to get it to build, the dependency on SELinux was removed so it may not work on machines with SELinux enabled.

Hi Feddds,

Apologies for not getting back sooner, but I was away for a few days.

My guess is you need all those packages - dependencies I guess.

I'll see if I can ping Johnny for you to take a look.
