ELRepo kmod-hyperv?

Post by TheGorf » 2011/11/11 23:02:54

I'm installing some CentOS 5.7 servers on our Microsuck Hyper-V servers. I was installing the ELRepo repository because the kmod-hyperv rpm is maintained there per their site:

http://elrepo.org/tiki/kmod-hyperv&highlight=hyperv

But when I go to install it, yum can't seem to find it. Has it disappeared from ELRepo? Is it maintained anywhere else? I really don't want to install the dev tools on these boxes if I can avoid it...

I was wondering the same thing some time ago, managed to find it in the EL6 repositories. Since this satisfied my curiosity, I didn't bother to pursue this matter any further.
However, it would be nice to hear someone from ELRepo commenting on this matter, now that you brought it up ;-)

ELRepo kmod-hyperv?

I believe kmod-hyper-v was built only for EL6. However, you can try kernel-ml which has hyper-v modules enabled as seen in this ELRepo bug tracker.

interesting. The kernel-ml package installed. By default the ELRepo yum config doesn't have the kernel stuff enabled. That threw me for a moment lol.

Anyway, although they installed I'm still not getting any love. guess I will play with it...

Based on your negative nomenclature for the RedmondOS I presume I'd be preaching to the choir if I suggested installing CentOS on the bare metal and virtualizing other OSs. Presumably the PHB won't allow it. :-P
