can not install CentOS--hardware problem?

Post by debd » 2011/05/06 14:01:22

This is my first time in the cent forums. :)

I tried to install centOS (liveCD image) on my HDD.
When I tried with a USB made with Unetbootin, It booed into the live session but didn't gave the "Install to HardDisk" option
in the unetbootin menu, neither I could see my SATA drive from within the live session.

Later, when I tried using a liveCD, it wont boot. The following message was shown:
memory for crash kernel (0x0 to 0x0) not within permissible range
PCI: BIOS BUG: MCFG area at e0000000 is not E820 -reserved
PCI not using MMCONFIG
Usage: udevtrigger [--verbose] [--dryrun]
Warning: cant find root file system!
Create: symlink /dev/root and then exit the shell to continue the boot sequence.
Bash: no job control in this shell
bash-3.2#
I tried
ln -s /dev/root /dev
but it could not find '/dev/root'

I have a seagate ATA ST3500418AS HDD with 500GB storage.

The outputs of fdisk -l and lspci on my system are the following:
Disk /dev/sda: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes

You cannot perform an installation with the Live CD.

DVD or CDs

If you have fast Internet first CD will be enough if you do installation over HTTP ;)

The DVD is preferable, but the first post implied that USB media may be required. The Wiki article HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey may be of interest.

If you are going to do a netinstall only the much smaller netinstall CD is required, but netinstalls are often problematic, except with LAN installs, or a perfect Internet connection. OTOH CD#1 can be used to do a minimal install which can then be expanded with yum, and is also useful as rescue media.

Look under the Downloads drop-down on the menu bar near the top of the pages. Follow the links until you get to the .../5.6/isos/i386 or .../5.6/isos/x86_64 directory on a mirror near you and it should become obvious.

I have *exactly* the same problem.
I'm trying to boot centros 5.6 from usb on my new ha65m-ud3h-b3 motherboard with a i5 2400 CPU and 8G ram.

The usb process facility is fine as it can boot another stick.
Tried with apci-off but this does not fix it.

I have no CD and have pulled all my hair out...
Any help appreciated :-o

After reading the above you should realize why you should not hijack threads as you have done. Your problem may be quite similar, but also has differences. Please start a new Topic for your issue to get the attention you need, providing a link to this one if required for context.
