Centos 6.2 USB issue

Post by 171165312 » 2012/03/31 13:17:10

I currently have an Asus core i7 running both Windows 7 Premium and Centos 6.2 (Red Hat).
It comes with 8 USB ports (6 USB 2.0 and 2 USB 3.0).
I'm attempting to connect a gaming device (Novint Falcon), which requires USB 2.0 as a minimum.
It works as expected under Windows 7.
However, under Linux, all USB ports are detected as USB 1.1 even though lsmod indicates that xhci_hcd (which in theory is the module for USB 3.0) is mounted.
I have tried altering the BIOS USB settings with all possible combinations - disabling/enabling USB 3.0, disabling/enabling USB 2.0 support, etc.
I also tried using "modprobe -r xhci_hcd" and "modprobe -a ehci_hcd" with terminal (this failed miserably as the system indicates that ehci_hcd cannot be found. Furthermore, after xhci_hcd was disabled, no USB modules, ehci uhci or ohci, were detected, so I don't even know why my mouse and keyboard still functioned properly).
Not too surprisingly, the driver for Novint Falcon fails because USB 1.1 does not meet the minimum requirement.
Any suggestions as to what I could try to resolve this other than running it in Windows?

For the lsusb part, Bus 003-008 are the external usb ports. Although Bus 001 and 002 are indicated as USB 2.0, I am unable to connect to either of them.

Re: Centos 6.2 USB issue

Post by pschaff » 2012/04/03 01:15:57

Is it possible that those are motherboard header connectors that are not externally available?

A "yum update" and reboot is worth a try as you are still running the problematic original 6.2 kernel, although kernel-devel and kernel-headers are current. I see no reason that would happen unless the kernel was explicitly not updated.

I have installed the latest PBX in a Flash distro which includes CentOS 6.2 and I have the same problem as the topic starter. Did you resolve the problem? Here is my info:

Re: Centos 6.2 USB issue

Welcome to the CentOS fora. Please see the recommended reading for new users linked in my signature.

PIAF is one of those not-CentOS distros that it is hard for us to support, as attested to by the repo configs and excludes therein; but in any case, after reading the recommended links you should realize why you should not hijack threads as you have done. Please start a new Topic for your issue to get the attention you need, providing a link to this one if required for context.
