best version of Cent OS to setup web server

Post by aksidents » 2012/05/04 18:33:38

I have found different tutorials on what type (minimal, network, live...) versions of CentOS to install to create a web server.

Are there any great guides out there to help me configure my own? This will be my first big project on building a local webserver at my house.

As of now I am thinking of doing a minimal install... installing apache, php and mysql. I can do this on my own... but configuring them is another story... are there any guides or helpful tips I could use to configure these?

Any help or insite would be appreciated

Welcome to CentOS.
New members need to read

The installation and deployment guides are a must read.

Just curious - why do HOME users attempt to use ENTERPRISE OS's?

Use Unoobtu - it's designed from the ground up for HOME users and has support documentation and community support just aching to answer all those home-esque questions.

If you need help in picking something as simple as what install media to use, and can't use Google to find the thousands and thousands of articles that tell how to setup all types of various LAMP/LEMP stacks, in all likelihood you're not the target audience that CentOS was designed for.

Minimal, Network and Live discs aren't different versions of CentOS, they are different installation media for the same operating system. The deployment guide isn't a forum thread, it's a document from the upstream vendor.

For the same reasons anyone else would. For a robust and stable platform that does the jobs required of it.
