Yum, from Fedora to CentOS

Post by L3l00 » 2012/08/16 18:52:48

Howdy, I am new to CentOS but do know my way around Linux rather well. Currently I am using Fedora 17 as a Server but have finally decided that it would be a million times easier running a server with something a little more stable and here I am. Now my question is, is there a way or a yum command to swap out Fedora 17 to CentOS 6 without having to back everything up and do a fresh install?

Slightly longer answer. Nope.

Seriously, as you know, Fedora tends to put in newer versions of programs--this will include things as basic as the kernel and glibc. Things that are compiled to work with Fedora are frequently compiled against various versions of, for example, glibc or the kernel, so that if one tries to run them on CentOS, they won't work, looking for, to make up numbers, lib37.so5 when CentOS only has lib37.so.2
