vault.centos.org down?
vault.centos.org down?
I'm trying to view http://vault.centos.org/ to retrieve CentOS 5.3 but I'm getting a timeout error message in Firefox. Any idea what it's going to be back up again?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: vault.centos.org down?
Works for me. Exactly under what circumstances, and in what application, are you getting the error.
Re: vault.centos.org down?
It's working here too now. Thanks.
Re: vault.centos.org down?
Correction, it was working, now it's not. I was part way installing 5.3 via the OS folder when XenServer tried to download stage2.img and it failed. I tried myself and Firefox gave me the Timed Out error again.
Here's the results of a PING:
Pinging vault.centos.org [205.158.50.46] with 32 bytes of data:
Request timed out.

It is possible one of your mirrors are down?

Re: vault.centos.org down?
Hmm. Difficult to say what is causing you the problem. Things are fine here, at this particular moment --
$ ping -a -c5 vault.centos.org
PING vault.centos.org (95.211.98.141) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from hosted-by.leaseweb.com (95.211.98.141): icmp_seq=1 ttl=54 time=40.8 ms

rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 39.055/39.452/40.868/0.740 ms
Where are you? (Your From field is currently null.) It could be a mirror problem. Note the different IP address that my ping command has used . . .

Hmmm from my location, vault.centos.org resolves to 205.158.50.46 and it is not responding to ping. 95.211.98.141 seems fine as Alan noted.

Network installs are notoriously unreliable with a less than perfect connection. I presume you are aware that obsolete releases are not recommended or supported. If I wanted to install an unsupported release like 5.3 I'd download the DVD image or CD images and either use directly or set up a local repo.

According to the CentOS developer, Karanbir, that machine (205.158.50.46) is gone. It's been removed from DNS, so will disappear shortly.

Re: vault.centos.org down?
No love here, but it doesn't matter to me ATM ;)
$ ping -a -c5 vault.centos.org PING vault.centos.org (205.158.50.46) 56(84) bytes of data.

Re: vault.centos.org down?
Right, the machine with the IP 205.158.50.46 does not exist. But the IP was still in DNS, thus the trouble we have seen.
